In this first episode of the series, Clint is using a different horse than he did in the rest of the series. Clint was warned that the first episode horse liked to rub the riders legs against rock and trees in tight places and that Clint should raise his legs in narrow places. Notice that Clint's canteen is dented after he rides through the narrow path between the rocks at the first of the show. Clint changed horses as of episode two of the series, and kept that horse for the rest of the series.
"Cheyenne" was Warner Brothers first entry into production of television westerns. As such, the first season was a set of remakes of scripts and properties Warner Brothers already owned. This pilot was a reworking of the script from Rocky Mountain (1950) which had starred Errol Flynn and Patrice Wymore.
Clint Walker does not take his shirt off in this episode, as he did in most episodes of the series.
Released theatrically in the UK in September 1956 as support to "Serenade"
