- [first lines]
- J.R. Ewing: [as Jamie, packed and ready to leave, comes down the stairs] Well...
- [chuckles happily]
- Miss Ellie Ewing: [she and Clayton arrives at that moment] Why, Jamie, what are you doing?
- J.R. Ewing: She's leaving, Mama. Good riddance.
- Miss Ellie Ewing: [turns to face J.R] Why?
- Jamie Ewing: J.R. and I just can't seem to get along. He told me to leave.
- Clayton Farlow: Just like that? Come on, Jamie, tell us what happened.
- Jamie Ewing: [looks at J.R., but refrains from telling] It doesn't matter what else happened. He's right, I don't belong here.
- [J.R. smirks]
- Miss Ellie Ewing: Jamie, it is not J.R.'s place to tell anyone to leave. This is my home, and I've been very happy that you're here.
- J.R. Ewing: Mama, she wants to leave, why are you trying to stop her?
- Miss Ellie Ewing: She's family!
- J.R. Ewing: Well, family or no, I don't want her sponging off of us anymore.
- Miss Ellie Ewing: She has not sponged off us.
- J.R. Ewing: Oh? I wonder how many $500 dresses she has hanging up in her closet? Not to mention the new car, of course. But, uh... I suppose you gave the keys back to Sue Ellen, didn't you?
- Jamie Ewing: I asked her if I could borrow it for a while. Don't worry, I'll get it back to you as soon as I can. I sure don't want anything that belongs to you.
- J.R. Ewing: Well, maybe I will look in that duffel bag of yours to see if there's any family silver in there.
- Jamie Ewing: [seething] You know, you really are the pits!
- Miss Ellie Ewing: J.R., that's a terrible thing to say! I want you to apologize!
- J.R. Ewing: The hell I will. The sooner she's out of here, the better.
- [turns, leaves]
- Clayton Farlow: J.R.!
- Miss Ellie Ewing: Clayton, please... Don't.
- [to Jamie:]
- Miss Ellie Ewing: Despite J.R., I want you to know you are perfectly welcome to stay here.
- Jamie Ewing: Thanks, Miss Ellie, I know that you do mean that, and I appreciate it, but... I don't wanna stay here in the middle of any more battles. Thanks.
- [hugs her]
- Clayton Farlow: Is there anything you need? Money to tide you over, a place to stay?
- Jamie Ewing: No, thanks, Clayton, I'll be okay. It's about time I started to make it on my own anyway. Bye.
- Clayton Farlow: Bye.
- Miss Ellie Ewing: [after Jamie has gone] Why, J.R.? What brought this on?
- J.R. Ewing: Mama, that little girl is a snoop and a liar. You saw how close she was getting to Sue Ellen.
- Clayton Farlow: Why does that bother you?
- J.R. Ewing: Because she is filling her head full of nonsense, talking about things that are not her damn business!
- Sue Ellen Ewing: [re the woman J.R. was seen with] She was an old friend of the family.
- Jamie Ewing: Oh, come on, Sue Ellen, don't tell me you believe that!
- Sue Ellen Ewing: You just don't understand him.
- Jamie Ewing: No. I don't understand you.
