The Faust opera plot inspires Dharma, to a suddenly desperate change of mind...—KGF Vissers
- The financial realities of Greg's unemployment sink in, and Dharma takes on a slew of new jobs. She teaches yoga 4 times a week, takes a meal serving job at a school cafeteria, walks dogs, distributes pamphlets, construction crew, a human advertisement board. She even visits the unemployment exchange to find more jobs that she can pick up. Dharma was a blackjack dealer, a NASCAR pit crew, mermaid and so on. Dharma says that she has a slot between 11 am and 2:30 pm where she can pick up an extra job. She gets the cafeteria gig that way.
Greg is still taking it slow and Dharma doesn't want to pressure him. Greg wants to take a slow walk in the park. While Dharma is juggling multiple jobs Greg watches a really slow chess game at the park between 2 Octogenarians, smells the flowers, falls asleep on the park bench, and spends time with a pigeon.
Greg finds out that Dharma is juggling multiple jobs to make ends meet. Greg decides to cut expenses. He starts cooking food at home, no dry cleaning and other austerity measures like no cable, ketchup from the free sachets, only one toilet paper sheet per visit to the bathroom, which makes Dharma realize that she was now hooked on to the good life. Dharma makes a deal with the devil to make ends meet. She accepts a covert check from Kitty in exchange for expanded mother/daughter-in-law time spent together. Dharma spends the first check within a week, spending the money from Chinese takeout and laundry. She ruins the washing machine when she hides the Chinese takeaway from Greg in the washing machine and Greg turns it on.
Dharma goes back to Kitty for another check. Kitty is willing to give more money to Dharma. Kitty makes Dharma get Greg to clean up (shave his beard) by pretending that his beard makes her ticklish during sex. Dharma makes Greg attend a high-powered party and uses that to introduce him to a business tycoon Lionel, who is also a friend of Edward. Lionel is impressed that Greg has quit his job at the US attorney's office to do some soul searching. Lionel likes the out of the box thinking and likes a man who can stop to smell the roses. Greg says that he recently stopped at a park to smell the roses and it felt nice, but not great.
Lionel wants to discuss a job offer at his company with Greg and invites him for a formal meeting. Lionel and Edward are drinking and smoking cigars with Greg and wooing him towards the job.
While this meeting takes place, Kitty takes Dharma to the opera to see "Faust". Dharma comes to her senses and rushes back on foot, jumping over every obstacle in her path, just in time to prevent Greg from accepting a corporate job. Greg is about to sign the papers when Dharma bursts into the meeting room, slides all the way over the table and stops Greg from signing the papers. Dharma kisses Greg and Edward knows that now Greg will not sign the papers.
