One of the Seals in the bar is named Fred Niblo. Fred Niblo was a major director during the silent era. He directed Ben Hur, Blood and Sand (with Rudolph Valentino), and Douglas Fairbanks in The Mark of Zorro.
Rob can't remember the name of the church he's meeting Laura at, but thinks it's the name of a child actor. He starts listing last names of actors of the day, including: Jane Withers, Jackie Coogan, Mickey Rooney, Leo Gorcey, and Shirley Temple ("they wouldn't name a church 'Temple'"). Reading through the phone book he finally lands on Freddie Bartholomew.
