Warning: Spoilers
Laura Petrie is a hysterical pain in the rear when Rob gets home from work. She is having one of her hissy-fits and Rob somehow musters the courage to leave (for once) and ends up staying out all night. Later both Laura and Rob each tell their respective sides of the story, which naturally are diametrically opposed. The Laura Petrie character can sure be selfish and annoying in the earlier episodes such as this one (in my opinion). Decent episode if you can get past Laura's obnoxious whining.

More like the Bickersons than the Petries.

"The Night the Roof Fell In" is a very poor episode, as instead of seeming like "The Dick Van Dyke Show", it seemed more like "The Bickersons" or "Mama's Family"...with all that nasty arguing. Add to that a cliched plot and talking goldfish and you have a turkey of an episode.

Rob comes home from work in a very bad mood. But Laura's also has had a tough day and her mood is also miserable. Soon the two begin arguing and talking to each other in ways you would NOT expect from Laura and Rob at all...and it culminates with him storming out and not returning until a day later!!

The story is told just like the Japanese film "Rashomon"...something that sadly has been done too many times. Plus, the first flashback is told by a goldfish...which is pretty dopey. Overall, a very badly written episode...and it's very atypical of the show and makes you wonder why they made it in the first place.
