The family has managed to throw Doris a small surprise birthday party, with just the family in attendance. Another surprise is that Billy and Toby are buying her a present: a fancy dinner out on Saturday which they've saved for three weeks in order to accomplish. Despite Buck's suggestion to Doris for him to lend them a few dollars just in case, Doris convinces him not since the whole point is for them to feel like they did this all on their own. However, she plans to take along some extra cash just in case, and pay for whatever difference without the boys finding out. What Doris is unaware of is that the boys know what she's up to, and as such remove her wallet from her purse. Two potential problems arise. First, what in a boy's mind is fancy restaurant may not be fancy to an adult. Not to hurt her sons' feelings, Doris may have to grin and bear their choice of restaurant. And second, the establishment they choose is not the type of place one would shortchange a check without some physical violence as a repercussion. What may however be worse is the embarrassment the boys would feel if they found out that the cause of their predicament is because they didn't have enough money.
