This is a disgusting episode--not because of the way the show was handled but because any mother could have that little regard for her baby. It's really hard to believe that this and other stories from "Dragnet" were inspired by real cases.
It all begins with a baby being discovered inside a dumpster. It's only a few days old and might not survive. So it's up to Friday and Gannon to investigate. The problem is that no one has any idea whose baby it was and much of the show is spent following various tenuous leads. Eventually, however, the detectives have a good idea whose child it was. But, in a tough to watch last portion of the show, you see just how cold and self-centered someone could be to do such a thing. Towards the very end, after much prodding by the 'mother', Joe finally lets loose and tells her EXACTLY how it is.
Tough, interesting and hard to forget--see this one.
