A rather unspectacular episode of a great TV serial
fastfood-14 December 2009
Let's start with saying that personally I admire "Early edition". This is one of the greatest serials I have ever watched and it always gives me good mood and hope that IT IS possible to change the world for the better. In short, the main character Gary gets stuck in an abandoned cinema and needs help to get out. His parents get involved as Gary's dad suddenly gets the "Early edition" delivered to their home instead of McGinty's. Generally I would consider this episode rather uninteresting as Gary is just lying there in the cinema throughout all of the episode, on the other hand it's nice to get deeper information about his parents and their relationship. What I found particularly interesting in this episode, and it's the only reason why I write this comment, are the Carpathian brothers. In jail one of them claims to be from Latvia (country in the middle of the Baltic states in Europe). Carpathian is supposed to be a surname, however it derives from Carpathian mountains that are nowhere near to Latvia (roughly 600km or 370miles away). They talk gibberish among each other, however in the end you can see their village where the newspaper is in real Latvian language. The "Latvian landscape" shown there is totally wrong - in reality the land in Latvia is very flat and goats/sheep are not very common (by the way, I've never seen such brown ones before), and in the countryside you can find either brick or wooden houses (also 10 years ago). We do have a region with a notable polish minority, but living in a farm they would surely not read such a magazine in Latvian and wouldn't call "mamá" with such pronunciation. So my conclusion, it is an unspectacular episode when comparing to other ones from "Early edition" unless you are a Latvian, then you would probably find it amusing.

Not enough Gary........

There are certain episodes of Early Edition that I absolutely love. This, unfortunately, is not one of them. William DeVane is a delight as Gary's over-eager father. But the story leaves Gary out of the picture for way too much of the time. He is the heart of the show and when he is absent it just doesn't nearly have the magic.
