The crew of the USS Appleby are eager to watch a murder mystery being shown in the mess hall entitled "Murder at Mumbley Moors". The tense whodunit (done in the style of a parody in the episode) climaxes when the inspector is about to name the killer. The film reel ends and the last reel can't be found. No one can work without discussing who the killer could be. At last, the film company finds a copy of the film for the crew at the Colonial Theatre in Singapore. Ensign O'Toole (Dean Jones) tries to find a way to get from the Philippines to the theatre. The problem? The film is in an Oriental dialect that no one can understand. The crew watches their incomplete copy of the film with O'Toole assigning different people the task of studying one character in a hope they can solve the whodunit. The plot seems a bit contrived, but the humor picks up steam in the second half.
