'Daedalus' refers to an ancient Greek myth about inventor Daedalus and his son Icarus. Daedalus was commanded by the king of Crete to build a large labyrinth to put the Minotaurus in, a ferocious monster, half man/half bull. The king was so fond of Daedalus achievements, that he wanted to keep Daedalus, and forbade him to leave. Knowing that he couldn't leave the island by boat, Daedalus constructed wings for himself and his son out of wax and bird feathers, so they could fly of the island. However, while escaping, Icarus became overconfident, and flew to close to the sun, causing the wax that held his wings together to melt and the boy to fall to his death. The Enterprise episode "Daedalus" is also about an inventor who found out a new way of travelling, but lost his son in the process.
