Warning: Spoilers
"The Test" is a story of a failed businessman seeking revenge on his competitor by kidnapping him. That's just the start. When Inspector Lewis Erskine and SAC Tom Colby arrive, they also have to deal with the kidnap victim's dysfunctional family, especially the son, who has a drinking problem and lacks self confidence. He's played expertly by Robert Foxworth, who would go on to the 1980s series Falcon Crest.

We see the story unfold, and in the process see veteran actor Kenneth MacDonald (Three Stooges shorts, Perry Mason) make his final-ever acting appearance. Harold Gould makes one of his many appearances on the show, and John Colicos, the kidnapper, has his one and only role here.

And we see that even the kidnap victim isn't on solid financial ground, which means there's a problem in raising the ransom.

As always, a solid episode with a taut ending.
