Cissy gets a little too sophisticated
gregorycanfield24 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Cissy's new friend Dana is a seemingly sophisticated society type. Cissy takes on some new characteristics, in an attempt to be more like Dana. Cissy drops the "uncle" when addressing Bill. She also disrespects Mr. French in the same way. The story doesn't follow an obvious path. Dana's whole dynamic turns out to be nothing but a smoke screen. Due to her parents' indifference to her, Dana actually envies what Cissy has. Initially, I didn't care too much for the Dana character. By the end of the episode, I could only sympathize with her. Dana felt like she was unloved by her parents. That's very sad. Liam Sullivan played Dana's father. I couldn't quite take him seriously. This is because I kept thinking about an appearance he made, as an alien, on Lost in Space! In all seriousness, however, this is one of the finest Family Affair episodes. Note: If it seemed like I was criticizing Cissy, I wasn't! I was only stating what she did, and she quickly saw the error in her behavior. Kathy Garver could have played an axe murderer, and I think she still would have turned me on!

Cissy's High Society Friend

Cissy invites her friend Dana to stay over.

Another very good Season 3 episode. Dana is played by Lori Martin who was Gregory Peck's daughter in the 1962 "Cape Fear". Dana's parents are theater actors who are busy in a show. A subplot has Buffy playing a tree in a school play. Dana does some name dropping of celebrities such as "Uncle" Larry Olivier. A good twist to the story is Dana wanted to be with a nice family since her parents have separated. See this episode for the ending, atypical for most sitcoms of the time but not this one.
