She Did, But He Said, So She Didn't, But He's Sad, So She Did

Episodes like this are truly a spectacle to watch.

Cissy is taking an art class (the illustrations are absurd, if you ask me). She is drawing 'the members of her family' to be shown at a presentation for all to see.

She fails to mention Mr. French, who just happens to have approached from behind.

After he leaves, she tells Uncle Bill she had been working on one of French all week and she produces it for him to see. She wants to surprise Mr. French with the drawing.

So Mr. French feels left out. He then accidentally finds the drawing and Uncle Bill tells him it was supposed to be a surprise, so he better act surprised when he sees it. Mr. French approves of the drawing.

Mr. French then goes to pick up Buffy and Jody after school and they taunt a kid for being skinny, reciting a childish little limerick at him. Mr. French scolds the children for the recital.

They tell Mr. French the intended kid finds it amusing, which he did. This is truly a telling bit about teasing in our day and age of bullying, isn't it? Mr. French then tells Buffy and Jody a story about his being teased as a child for being big. They believe him. He then informs a woman standing nearby he was called names, and enjoyed every minute of it as childhoods go.

So now when Cissy produces the drawing with Buffy and Jody present, they tell her Mr. French was hurt as a child for being teased about his size.

Cissy fears she cannot show the drawing now and hurt his feelings, so she keeps it hidden.

Now when the drawings are shown, Mr. French is surprised to see he is not included (tho he already has seen the drawing).

This episode is one for the books with it's "She said, so he thought, but he did, but he didn't, so she didn't, but they said, so he thought" bits going in and out.

For some reason, it always stuck with me. Maybe it was the drawings.
