Darleen got to me!
gregorycanfield28 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Darleen Carr went on to play Karl Malden's daughter in Streets of San Francisco. In this episode, she is excellent as Cissy's friend Carla. She develops a crush on Bill, and starts building things up in her mind. She convinces herself that Bill is ready to marry her, and he has to set her straight. I sympathized with Carla because their was nothing selfish about her "fantasy." She wasn't trying to "use" Bill to get "somewhere." She was simply attracted to someone who was considerably older than herself. There is really nothing unrealistic about such a situation. The heart doesn't necessarily recognize an age difference. The heart wants what it wants. Referring to my heading, I was being very sincere. Darleen did get to me. When Bill sets Carla straight on the situation, she starts to cry. Yes, she got me emotional, too! This is one of the best episodes I've watched, so far. If you read my other Family Affair reviews, you'll see that I'm a big Cissy/Kathy Garver fan. Darleen Carr was the first guest star who was in Kathy Garver's league.

Cissy's Love Struck Friend

Cissy's new friend Carla develops a crush on Uncle Bill.

A fair episode, Darleen Carr is good as Carla. She appeared in nearly every popular 1970s TV series as a guest star, most memorably as Karl Malden's daughter on "The Streets Of San Francisco". Carla gets it in her head that Bill wants to marry her. Funniest moment is Bill's reaction to that.
