This review covers both episodes. One of the coolest things about Porter Ricks job is the float plane he gets to fly whenever he feels like it. What began as a routine flight to check on alligator poachers turns into a nightmare after getting caught in a vicious man trap. The poacher drags a badly injured Porter to his secret camp and covers his plane to prevent the Coast Guard and other searchers from finding him.
The boys suspect something is up within an hour of Porter not showing up for a camping trip. Sandy shows adult-like initiative organizing a multi faceted search with him and Flipper leaving Bud to hold at the camp site in case of Porter's return. The sense of fear is palpable as Flipper and Sandy come up empty handed and they immediately turn to the Coast Guard.
This episode features some touching older brother/younger brother moments. Sandy moves from being exasperated by his impish brother's antics to speaking openly about Bud's apprehension and fears. No matter how much Sandy is freaking out, he still insists on he and Bud maintaining a positive attitude to finding their Dad.
Just when you wonder what role Flipper will play, Porter breaks free from the camp and hobbles to the outer edge of the Everglades closer to deeper water that Flipper can swim in and is seen by Flipper who of course quickly persuades the boys that he knows where Porter is. The rest follows the familiar pattern but you get the feeling that this fright (of potentially losing their father) has brought the two sometime fractious siblings together.
