Burt Reynolds guests in two-parter
fugazzi494 September 2013
Warning: Spoilers
The 25 minute time limit was difficult for dramatic shows because things had to develop and be wrapped up so quickly. The writers at Flipper broke out of this limitation by creating two-part stories that could do so much more with twice the time.

The Ricks family takes time out to camp on Turtle Island for the weekend but trouble arrives in the form of tough guy Burt Reynolds, who gets quite a bit of screen time and of course is great at playing a bad guy.

The episode also develops the characters of Sandy and Bud further with Sandy showing a notable scientific bent and Bud being a bit exasperated with him in typical brotherly fashion.

Burt Reynolds guest stars!

Ulla, the woman with the yellow submarine is back in this episode, but she doesn't plan to give Porter any problems. Still, indirectly she still comes in conflict with the Rick's family when Al Bardeman, played by Burt Reynolds (Gunsmoke fame is where I know him best, but he's been in a lot of movies as well), stills first the Ranger Boat, then the submarine.

This episode is the first of two parts where Flipper and the boys try to help capture a criminal. Of course stories about being left stranded on a desert island always hold some appeal, but this really isn't one of those stories.

I don't want to give too many details away, but we get a pretty good mix of Bud, Sandy, Dad, Ulla, and Burt. Of course unlike Gunsmoke, we don't get to see a buffy Burt but he's still pretty good looking all the same!
