The Frontier Circus series opened with John Derek rescuing a drunken Aldo Ray from a townsperson who was using him to bait a bear. When he brings him back
to the circus camp he finds that he and Chill Wills have a lot of history together
and that Ray was the greatest lion tamer of all until tragedy struck.
James Gregory is the show's current lion tamer and he's a brute and bully of a man even to his wife Bethel Leslie. When she shows a bit of tenderness towards Ray he becomes even worse.
