Just be you

One of my favorite parts of this episode is seeing Lucy Lee Flippin. I love her voice! She has that "teacher" voice just like she did when she played Eliza Jane Wilder on "Little House on the Prairie."

In this episode, D. J. and Kimmy start Junior High. Not being accepted by some on the first day, they decide to dress a bit more "junior highish" the next day. The results make for some great comedy! I loved Becky's "Oh D.J., don't ever let your father do your make up!"

I think that Season three is really the highlight of the show. It's the most memorable, but then maybe that's because I've seen these episodes so much more.

No doubt, people who watch this for the first time will get more entertainment from it, but it's still really good!

Touching.

Warning: Spoilers
First day of school! DJ is entering junior high and Stephanie is entering grade 2. I remember my time in both those grades, but my time in grade 7 was much easier than DJ's. This episode is an archetype on teenage peer pressure and popularity in school.

Stephanie loved her first day. People can call her by her last name and she knows right away that it's her they're talking to.

DJ's first day is different. The kids she goes to school with "are like so mature." Her and Kimmy don't have the same lunch time (very unrealistic) and popular girls are making her feel alone. So she spends lunch in the phone booth. The next day, her and Kimmy try to dress more mature but get stopped by Danny. Danny talks to DJ about being "a big fish in a bigger pond now" and all that jive. Becky teaches DJ how to wear make-up, then her and Kimmy make some new friends.

The only thing I was a bit surprised with was the lack of DJ's friends from elementary school being around. Sure there's Kimmy and Cathy Santoni, but there must be more. Usually upon entering a new school facility, people stick to the ones they know. The multiple lunch times may have had an affect on this, which is highly unrealistic. What kind of school has more than one lunch period?

The essence of the episode with DJ just being herself always gets me. It could have been better, but I'm happy with it the way it is.

Some flaws, but an overall fine episode.

The One Where D.J. Goes To Jr. High...

Warning: Spoilers
I really like this episode. It's funny and I can imagine that most people can relate to what D.J. is going through in this episode.

In this episode, D.J. goes to Jr. High for the first time and is extremely nervous. She doesn't like it as much as elementary school as it is so different. She doesn't have many classes with Kimmy, she feels like she dresses too young, and she hasn't made any friends. She tries to change herself, but in the end, realizes that that's not the right thing to do.

Overall, I give this episode an 8 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Awesome
