This episode would bring together Sally Field and Ron Rifkin 40 years before they would co-star in Brothers & Sisters (2006).
Carl Reindel (Scott) is a 31-year-old actor at the time of this episode. He is supposed to be dating the 15-and-a-half-year-old Gidget character.
This March 3, 1966, episode was 26-year-old Ron Rifkin's first television role. Five months 3 weeks and four days after the TV premiere of this episode, he married Iva Rifkin on August 28, 1966. They are still married as of February 2023.
The $25 John and Anne gave Scott to watch over Gidget is the equivalent of $200 in 2019. That is a lot for a young couple with no mentioned income while John is in school!
Barbara Hershey appears two more times in this series, each time playing Ellen (although mistakenly listed in the credits in this episode as Karen). The other two appearances occur in Chivalry Isn't Dead (1965) and Ask Helpful Hannah (1966). She, of course, went on to greater stardom later in her career, winning multiple awards and nominations: The winner of an Emmy and a Golden Globe for A Killing in a Small Town (1990), consecutively winning Best Actress awards at the Cannes Film Festival, (an unprecedented feat) for Shy People (1987) and A World Apart (1988), respectively; winning a Gemini Award for Anne of Green Gables: A New Beginning (2008) on PBS. She was nominated for an Academy Award for her work in The Portrait of a Lady (1996).
