"You're bad luck. Get away from me."
mark.waltz15 December 2019
So says Sophia when Rose learns that Charlie's pension is being cut off because the company he worked for is bankrupt. When she decides to go see Enrique Mas (Chick Vennera) after being turned down for several jobs for being too old, she finds even more obstacles. Meanwhile, Sophia becomes addicted to shopping at Shopper's Warehouse where everything is sold in large quantities.

This is a serious episode that has several moments that are truly dramatic and deals with the serious subject of age discrimination. This is the first of several appearances of Vennera as Enrique, already having played the boxer Pepe. Enrique gives Rose a product test which the girls aide her with. The episode ends on a happy note that ties in both the main and minor plots, giving Sophia a very funny exit line.

Rose Fights Back (#5.4)

Warning: Spoilers
Rose finds out that her pension is suspended and wants to find another job in order to be able to live. but she faces the problem of age discrimination. To get help she goes to a TV personality who helps injustices to make an age discrimination complaint there she hears that he is looking for assistant, but he says that she is too old for that. She still applies for a job and makes it.

A decent episode bringing up the unfairness of age discrimination so many face.

It is a bit of lesser quality than most of the latest Golden Girls episode because it doesn't bring as much humor as usually and they were always great at combining humor and serious matter.

Basically a script rehash of a Season 1 Episode
trosevear23 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is so eerily similar to the "Job Hunting" episode of Season 1. The gist is essentially the same. Due to an unfortunate event, Rose is forced to look for a job and, in both episodes, she blames getting older as the main reason why she can't find one. And in both episodes, it never dawns on Rose or anybody else that the main reason she can't find one is that she is woefully unqualified for any of them. How Rose was ever able to get a job as a grief counselor without a high school diploma, and in this episode, as a consumer reporter's assistant (and later as an associate producer!) with no relevant education or experience in either field, remains a mystery. Not to mention the fact that Rose is a complete idiot. Why this basic premise of a story had to be told in two episodes is odd and aren't even consistent with each other. Rose claims she was only ever a housewife in "Job Hunting" but in this episode we learn Rose managed a pet shop for 10 years - huh?
