Another version of Agatha Christie's 1939 novel And Then There Were None

If you are going to steal, then crib from the best. That's what is going on in this episode of Harry O - it is stolen from Agatha Christie's 10 Little Indians (aka in the US as And Then There Were None and by another title in the UK people can Google for themselves). It seems every detective show or soap opera took Miss Christie's book here and gave it a turn on US television in the 70s and 80s.

Several family members (not 10 as the episode's budget would not stretch) gather for a yearly allowance from an older sister. Clearly they hate each other and all start dropping dead in various fashions. No spoilers here, but if you like David Jannsen then you will like this episode.

THE DESERT ADDAMS FAMILY
tcchelsey21 August 2022
I haven't seen HARRY O in decades, and this episode brings back a lot of memories, in fact, probably the best of the first season. It's a neat whodunit, written by Howard Rodman, best known for his fine work on ROUTE 66. Versatile Jeanette Nolan, who last worked with David Janssen in the tv adventure HIJACK (1973), plays Letty, a wealthy desert recluse who gathers her feuding siblings for their annual "reunion" and stipend. Nolan was a fixture in tv westerns for decades, so the remote setting was a perfect fit. One by one the old familiar faces are bumped off and, quite naturally, Letty is the prime suspect, especially due to the fact she's a little batty herself. Without giving too much away, guessing the killer is not that difficult, but its fun to watch Nolan and Janssen trade barbs and a mansion in the middle of the desert is one heck of a trap.

The acting is quite good, and with a supporting cast of veterans at their suspicious best. One to see. SEASON 1 Episode 14. Prices of the series box sets are expensive, in some cases too expensive, so shop around as this is a memorable show.
