The High Life seemed like a flight of fancy back in 1995 when low cost flight carriers were in their infancy.
Created by its stars Alan Cumming and Forbes Masson who play bickering camp air stewards Sebastian Flight (Cumming) and Steve McCracken (Masson.)
The first episode see them both going for an opportunity to go for a promotion and do long haul work. They have to get a recommendation from their mean spirited supervisor Shona Spurtle (Siobhan Redmond.)
She has spotted her long lost father in the flight but he is handcuffed to a policewoman. Stirred on by her memories of the last time she saw her father, Shona arranges for him to escape.
Meanwhile the pilot, Captain Hilary Duff (Patrick Ryecart) thinks he is a member of the crew of the Starship Enterprise. He is totally nuts.
The series is zany and silly. Cumming and Masson started out as a comedy act and given they are the creative force. Dial up the camp and the energy.
Redmond and Ryecart take it all seriously, which makes it even funnier. At one point Duff beams off the plane.
The scary thing about The High Life. Having met several air stewards that work for low cost carriers. I wonder how much of the first episode is fiction!
