Adrian Paul wanted out
andrei1981-11 June 2012
Season 6 was an unnecessary agony for this otherwise enjoyable show. It is obvious that Paul wanted out of the show after season 5, as it clearly drops in quality (it's probably the worst season) and Paul barely shows up in season 6 episodes culminating with this episode when he is completely absent. Duncan is no longer the main character in most episodes of this season, he is just a guy who other immortals (main characters) go to for council or for sex (female immortals). Plus I don't think I have ever seen a TV show where none of the main characters was present. A couple more episodes after season 5, just to have a closure would have been a much better solution than letting the show go down like this.

Actress Claudia Christian was impressive as immortal Katherine - Spoilers
danrs00000822 October 2020
1. Personally I liked immortal Katherine and I wish that actress Claudia Christian could have been given more consideration as the main character of the Highlander spin off series. She was a bit weak on sword fighting skills, but those skills could have been improved with time during the spin off. 2. I personally did not like her mortal partner Nick. Also the immortal/mortal team concept just serves to muddy the story of immortals. I don't believe that viewers would tune in each week to see what Nick would be doing next, but I would have tuned in to watch Katherine. Not only does her character have an interesting back story, but she is a great looking immortal with a gorgeous head of HAIR (something we rarely saw on Amanda). Ironically it was a team comprised of an immortal and a mortal that ended up being chosen for the spin-off series, and we all know how long that spin off series lasted. 3. Aside from Nick and some careless blurting of statements made by Katherine, subtle statements about her immortality made in front of mortals, I liked this episode. Also, Actor Jack Ellis was great as evil immortal Bartholomew.

Highlander but not Highlander
ryshtyan30 May 2006
Adrian Paul is the star of the series and yet in this particular episode there is no trace of him nor his character. There isn't even a Methos, Joe Dawson nor any of the other regular faces we had grown used to seeing on a regular basis. Instead, we have an unknown immortal who takes part in a storyline that could have just as easily featured a Duncan MacLeod, even if it was just a minute of him, or at the very least, Joe Dawson. Something.

There was nothing. Mind you, it was a good episode otherwise. Unfortunately, it was with a character that seemed to have no relevance to the main stream ones, other than the fact she was an immortal. Big deal.

When the Highlander series had a spin off, I have to admit I would have much preferred Claudia Christian as the person to lead that spin off series as opposed to Elizabeth Gracen. At least in the spin off series going this route there would have been opportunities to explain what connection, if any, her Katherine character had with the other Highlander characters.

An average episode, made worse by trying to stand alone.

Warning: Spoilers
The producers knew that season 6 was the last season of Highlander, and a spin-off was going to be done, so several pre-pilot episodes were done with female immortals to try out several formats and character story lines to see which had the best chance of success.

"Two of Hearts" is one of those pre-pilot episodes, and IMHO, the worst.

I just didn't buy into Claudia Christian's acting or her character. Her fighting moves were a bit weak and she just didn't have the screen presence to pull-off an action series about an immortal. That, plus the boy-girl bad guy fighting duo theme is something that is old-hat and been done to death.

As we know, eventually they went with the Amanda character & the Raven series, but stuck her with that old boy-girl team-up thing, which quickly got boring.
