"Snoopers sometimes get shot."

Warning: Spoilers
Honey and Sam are hired by an art museum to test their security. To prove how inefficient it is, they steal a rare Chinese jade owl. Honey and Sam agree to beef-up the museum's system, only to have the same jade owl immediately stolen - and this time, it's been stolen for real.

The Owl and the Eye is a solid, but not spectacular episode of Honey West. The problem with the episode is its predictability. The thief's identity is telegraphed the minute the cast is introduced. If you can't spot the thief, you haven't seen enough television from the 60s and 70s. The highlights of this episode have to be Honey's date and the final "fight" scene on the boat. The latter is particularly enjoyable with Honey cleverly fighting off a pack of guard dogs.

In the episode's edition of Name That Character Actor, we have Lloyd Bochner. Again, the name may not be familiar, but with 202 acting credits listed on IMDb (and most in television), you'd know him if you saw him.

Honey West and Sam Bolt test the strength of an art museum's security on behalf of the insurance company.

They do this by stealing an ancient jade owl from China. There next job is to instal a state of the art security system for the museum. This includes having something akin to a Geiger counter installed to detect intruders.

Only once the security system has been enhanced and Honey getting cosy with Guy Patterson (Lloyd Bochner) an executive who lent the owl to the museum. The owl is then stolen for real.

Honey and Sam have egg on their faces. They try to track down the real culprit who is in hock to a Chinese art thief.

You just know the statue of the owl will get stolen. The baddie is easy to figure. They would later have a memorable wedding night in Dynasty after marrying Alexis Carrington!

CAMPY 60S FUN WITH THE BAD GUYS
tcchelsey29 January 2023
This was the second episode of the series and it moves. Honey West was a female James Bond of sorts for the small screen and very resourceful. Her mission is to check out a new security system at a museum with all the hidden safeguards. Do they work? There's a cool scene at the start with Honey hitting the museum like a cat burglar. Smooth bad guy Lloyd Bochner is in the mix, and you know with this guy around, anything goes. Part of the episode was filmed off San Pedro, right where honey gets dumped into the ocean. Campy stuff that will keep your attention. Salute to veteran actress Irene Hervey as Honey's Aunt Meg. This was filmed at the sprawling CBS studio lot and soundstages in Studio City, CA. It is a place filled with history going back to the 1920s and in some of the HONEY WEST episodes you can catch a glimpse of the man made lake that was part of GILLIGANS ISLAND. Great for tv buffs. SEASON 1 EPISODE 2 Finally on dvd.
