Funny, heartfelt episode

Warning: Spoilers
The Ricardo's and The Mertz's are still in Europe specifically Italy but it's Little Ricky's third birthday. There is a broken elevator, a stair case repeatedly in use, a bunch of sweet children and attempts to call Little Ricky on his birthday, finally getting it right. I really love how Lucy and Ethel throw a birthday party for Little Ricky in Italy and treat the local children to a party cake and ice cream and presents . This is Lucy at her most loving and generous and gentle. The way she comforted Little Theresa was so heartwarming. Ethel would have made a good mother. Even Fred ends up going along with the fun.

The children even do their part in wishing Little Ricky a happy birthday with Ricky and his grandma listening and smiling.

One of the series most memorable efforts!

Great comical quips from the main cast throughout this half-hour gem, with even Ricky tossing in a slapstick bit when he twice collapses, totally exhausted, onto a bed that seems to have a solid, concrete mattress! They're at a rundown hotel in Florence, Italy, both the Ricardo's and the Mertz's, and Lucy, feeling homesick, is desperately trying, but so far failing, to place a phonecall back home to New York to wish little Ricky a Happy Birthday. When she collapses, disappointedly, into a chair by the hotel Lobby's phone, in walks the little hero of this memorable episode: a poor, eight-year-old shoeshine boy(played by ten-year-old guest actor Bart Baverman), who immediatly, and masterfully, brightens up the scene with a most charming and brilliant acting performance such as I've never seen pulled off by an actor so young! He delivers all his lines in Italian-style-broken-English; but the rub here is that, convincing as he is, he is not Italian at all! Is it too late to award him an honorable Emmy---he's alive and well at 76!--- for a 66-year-old performance? He effortlessly steals the rest of the show, which you'll just have to watch to understand why!

Underrated gem!

Warning: Spoilers
The humor is woven into the story and circumstances a the Ricardo's and Mertz's stay in a modest rather rundown hotel in Italy.

The sweetest episode of the series as Lucy with Ethel's help give a birthday party for little Ricky . Without giving much away Fred's choice of lodgings actually makes this party possible. It never would have happened in a fancier place. The local children are a key part in this. Watching Lucy mother other children adds something to her character and the same with Ethel.

Ricky also does the nicest thing for Lucy in this one.

The running gags of a broken elevator, hard beds , several flights of stairs and no phone in the rooms add a lot of humor to this episode .

I really love this episode and wish it was more watched and talked about.
