- Sally's new neighbor, Mr. Shoot, seeks help buying a horse. When the Knoxs and Yeates take him to the market, they are surprised to learn how clueless he really is. Flurry becomes jealous of Mr. Shoot's attention to Sally.
- Philippa gains an enthusiasm for riding, but the Major refuses to let her go hunting until she has a steady hunting horse. So, they go to the Horse Fair with Sally Knox and her high-spirited new neighbor, Bernard Shute.
At the fair, Flurry Knox is aggrieved to see the young cousin he loves on the arm of this good looking, attentive young man. Flurry's contempt soon turns to jealousy, and he sells his notoriously wild and dangerous mare to Bernard. Unfortunately, his scheme backfires, causing injury to Major Yeates and landing Flurry in the locked apple house during a fox hunt.
