- Bud has lost his right lower leg due to a land mine in Afghanistan. A helo takes him to USS Guadalcanal, where the requisite people and facilities are available. Bud's condition becomes critical. Harm, Mac, and Sturgis, aboard USS Seahawk, receive the news about Bud. Sturgis returns to Washington. RAdm. Chegwidden directs Harm and Mac to decide which of them will stay temporarily in Bud's billet aboard USS Seahawk, and which will return also to Washington; however, they both go to USS Guadalcanal, igniting the ire of the JAG. PO Coates gives much help to Bud and shows much concern about him and loyalty to him. The admiral, Loren, and the SecNav appear as witnesses before a congressional committee. The admiral aids and comforts Harriet, as does Midn. Mikey Roberts, on emergency leave from the US Naval Academy. Bud gets into serious trouble during surgery, but he encounters an astounding change of course.—DocRushing
- Bud and Coates's trip to Afghanistan takes a turn for the worse when Bud, attempting to save a young Afghan boy from a minefield is left badly injured with his right leg being lost after Bud steps on a landmine. As the JAG staff wait for news about Bud, everyone recalls their various meetings with Bud that have occurred over the last seven years, while Admiral Chegwidden and Lieutenant Singer both testify before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence about the "dirty bomb" attack that was stopped in "Enemy Below" with the outcome eventually costing Alexander Nelson (Paul Collins) his job as SECNAV.
- The episode starts with a short recap of where we left off last season: Bud and PO Coates walking along a dirt road enroute to attend the ground-breaking of the new school, when they spot a small boy playing in a field that had yet to be cleared of mines. As Coates runs for help, there is an explosion behind her. She turns in time to see Bud injured in the explosion and runs to his side. Coates insists that Bud must be transported on the helo that brought them in, that Bud won't be able to wait for the proper medevac chopper. Bud is airlifted to a field hospital, critical, but still alive. As luck would have it, ZNN reporter Stuart Dunston just happens to be at the base camp when Bud is brought it. Dunston reports the arrival of an injured JAG officer that was brought it, but does not report the name. Chegwiggen advises Harriet, but reminds her he is still on the Seahawk. She tries to contact him by instant messaging, but does not receive a reply.
- Bud is in critical condition. Chegwidden says one person can stay, 2 others have to return to JAG. Sturgis returns. Harm and Mac stay to check on Roberts, disobeying the Admiral. Mike Roberts takes an emergency leave from the Academy to be with family while the doctors struggle to save Bud's life.—Jesse Sanchez
