Flirt with Mother Jefferson, you're bound to get a flattered giggle that turns her into an 18 year old girl. In the previous episode, that was the reaction of flattery from Louise's Uncle Ward, and episode later, she is engaged to a retiring Hotel chain manager (Alvin Childress). Of course Louise is thrilled because she thinks he's going to take her to Florida, but George is upset until he learns the truth about Childress's fortune. But the octogenarian couple have individual doubts and this leads to private conversations between Mother Jefferson and Louise and George and Childress that reveals the truth.
Part of this episode would be used in the opening theme in years to come. That is a sequence where Bentley is locked out of his apartment wearing only a shirt and tie and his underwear, desperately trying to get back again. There's no Tom, Lionel and Jenny, but Helen is there simply to exchange some cracks with George. It's an excellent episode for the cast, and it's a great one for the still fan-favorite character of Jericho he's beloved Mother Jefferson. The conversation between her and Louise is particularly memorable, particularly her revelation that she knows that she's not always easy to get along with which brings on a great response from Isabel Sanford.
