Lew Ayres (1908-1996) was an American actor who became world famous in the role of German high school student Paul Bäumer in the anti-war film ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT (1930) based on the great novel by the German writer Erich Maria Remarque. After this brilliant success, he remained a busy Hollywood star, who also shone alongside Katharine HEPBURN in HOLIDAY (1938) and Olivia De HAVILLAND in THE DARK MIRROR (1946).
Lew AYRES received his only ACADEMY AWARD nomination in 1949 for his role in JOHNNY BELINDA (1948) alongside Jane WYMAN. The three people involved probably took the role he played in the separation of the later FALCON CREST star Jane WYMAN from her then husband Ronald REAGAN (in the 1980s he would become President of the United States of America!!!) with them to their grave .
Lew Ayres was also still professionally active in the 1980s. In the episode "Silver Shadows" (1981) of the popular US series KNOTS LANDING, as an older millionaire, he develops a romantic interest in the greedy, scheming Abby Fairgate Cunningham (played by the enchanting Donna MILLS, who turned incredible 80 just a few years ago and then returned to the big screen for NOPE), which of course couldn't end well. He also appeared in an Italian slapstick comedy like DON CAMILLO (1984) alongside the powerful Italian actor Terence HILL.
