- Will and Holly are lured to the Lost City by a hypnotic stone which shows them a vision of their dead mother.
- One morning, Holly awakens to find that something has for the third night in a row come into the cave and stolen their food. Rick gives her the task of devising a trap to find out exactly what is stealing their food. That same morning, Will is awaken by something else, a mysterious sound that has a hypnotic effect on him. Later outside doing chores, Will once again hears the sound and follows it to its source, a cave where he finds a crystal. Picking it up, Will then sees a vision of his deceased mother just past the entrance to a tunnel in the cave. He is confused, and wants to tell his family about this finding, but for some reason he can't. However, Holly, eventually following Will, learns about the crystal and what it does. The reason for their visions give the family a different perspective on Holly's task of setting the trap.—Huggo
- Will is awakened by a mysterious humming noise. When he walks outside the cave the noise is gone and there is no sign of any source. He mentions this in passing and Rick and Holly say they've heard nothing. Holly meanwhile is more concerned that some sort of rodent has been nibbling into their burlap sack containing food. Rick suggests she design a trap for the intruder and she begins working on such a contraption
Later Will hears the emanation again and this time is compelled to walk to the Lost City. He is momentarily snapped out of his trance when Big Alice the allosaurus strides past. Once she leaves he enters the city and finds a table of crystals. Picking one up off the dirt floor he looks into a fog of mist and sees the hazy but recognizable image of a beautiful woman, an image that moves him to tears because he recognizes her as "Mother."
As Holly tries to make her trap effective Will is moving in a seemingly depressed state, and even snaps at his Dad when pressed before apologizing. When the emanation strikes again Will returns to the Lost City but is followed by Holly. At the matrix table seeing Will staring lovingly into what initially appears to be empty space she grabs one of the crystals......and now sees Mom for herself. But Mom cautions she must go but her children should return tomorrow.
The two siblings, both unable to bring themselves to tell Dad, walk slowly and sadly to High Bluff. Mom died when they were younger, but the time doorways may have opened to when she was still alive. That night after planting crops the emanation seizes both and they start to the Lost City. But this time Rick, now realizing something has happened to his son and daughter, quietly follows. Will and Holly arrive first and once again see the image of Mom, but tearfully they can't bring themselves to follow her. But when the image changes to Rick, now wearing a business style suit, Will and Holly break down in tears and follow their father through the tunnel, happily telling Dad about routine school and social activity and Dad promising they'll be a family again.....all the while unaware they are in fact strolling peacefully with a Sleestak (visible to the viewer via quick cutaways). When the real Rick reaches the matrix table he holds the crystals and sees not his deceased wife but Will and Holly. His own mind not as vulnerable as his children are, he angrily denies the reality of the image and smashes one of the crystals. It breaks the spell and Sleestak, now exposed, flee, as Rick, realizing the trap, angrily races in to rescue his children
