Jess is playing poker in Laramie when it appears Jess loses a big hand to a professional gambler. However, another player realizes there was one too many kings in the deck. When the crooked dealer tries to draw, Jess wounds him. Back at the ranch Slim and Jess are trying to share the chores with Andy at school in St. Louis accompanied by Jonesy. The stage arrives with a beautiful woman, June Brown, on board who Slim is attracted to but Jess believes he has seen her before - perhaps at Carson City. Jess tells Slim she is no good. In Laramie, June applies for the job of dealer at the saloon having heard the previous dealer was shot. She is a quite good, perhaps too good, attraction for the saloon. Slim defends her resulting in him and Jess fighting with two drunk locals. Later, Jim Dark introduces himself to the saloon owner who recognizes him as past lawman. He knows June but they don't acknowledge each other. He is her husband with the Reeves outlaw gang after him. His gun hand was wounded but he killed one of the brothers. June wants him to leave but asks Slim to help Jim.
