The episode was inspired by the Satanic Panic Abuse cases that popped up in California in the early 80's. In particular the McMartin Preschool and Kern County child abuse cases.
( Zach Gilford appears in a white and blue football shirt, a reference to his starring role in Friday Night Lights (2006), where he plays the starting QB for a team with white and blue jerseys. )
The above is not a valid entry. This SVU story originally aired in January 2005, probably having been filmed in late fall 2004. "Friday Night Lights" did not begin airing until almost 2 years later, in October 2006, and would not have even been in production yet in the beginning of 2005. Any similarity the jersey worn in this episode has to the uniforms worn later in FNL is therefore merely coincidental, and is certainly not a reference to a character that didn't even exist at the time.
