- Mrs. Henry: What were you doing? Why didn't you shoot them? That's your job!
- Lazarus (James Cathcart): Sorry ma'am. I was busy getting hit on the head with a pistol.
- Matz: Take your shot Lazarus. You earned it.
- Lazarus (James Cathcart): I don't play that way Matz. Now why don't you collect your friend there and ride on out? If you get him to a doctor he just might live.
- Matz: I know where I recognize you from. Saw your picture in a file up in Denver. You're the man the government's looking for. They been looking all over for you.
- Lazarus (James Cathcart): You tell them you almost got me.
- Lazarus (James Cathcart): Why is it every time I meet some people I truly like they get themselves into big trouble or worse?
- Griffin Henry: I did manage to get you out of that bad mood you were in for an hour.
- Griffin Henry: If a man has a real hard beef with one of these corporations like that company. Who the hell are you supposed to shoot?
- Griffin Henry: When that company, the Hastings Gold Mining Company, moved in on our claim in Colorado every man up there was a free man panning the streams, digging the dirt anywhere we wanted to strike a claim. Some got rich. All made more than they would working for wages anywhere. And you could work as long and hard as you wanted to. Free men. Every last one of them. And then the Hastings company come in, a couple other big outfits with their thugs. They strong armed some. And a lot of us they killed. When they were done they had every claim up there. You could work for them for wages or you could get the hell out. Wasn't a free man left. When I could walk again I went up there to get revenge. The men who maimed me were gone, replaced by new thugs. So I went looking for the head man. This is a new thing, they said. This is a corporation. There is no head man. Well who owns it, I said. A lot of people do. They're all back east. So I didn't get any satisfaction. Until now.
