This is what you would call a "family episode," with most of the main characters present for a change of pace. It's also goofy as heck, and why all us kids loved this show.
Writer Dick Conway really made Eddie and Lumpy the ultimate finks. Beave, along with Whitey, Gilbert and Alan (played by Mark Murray) almost miss out on a camping trip, all because they need an adult to chaperone. Enter good brother Wally to help everyone out, but messing up plans for Eddie and Lumpy, who need him to complete a "triple date?" That has to be a first in tv history!
Accordingly, to get Wally home MUCH sooner, they sneak up on the guys and attempt to scare everyone out of their sleeping bags. No question, there's some tried and true stunts on how to scare someone in a forest, if not ruin an otherwise fun trip. Look for actor John Hart as the forest ranger, who was the "second' actor to play the LONE RANGER.
Mark Murray plays Beave's other pal, Alan, who appeared in only three episodes. His character suddenly appeared and then disappeared, and with no explanation, which was a strange thing. That always had us kids scratching our heads. Mark, to his credit, appeared in many top shows in the 60s, including PERRY MASON.
Dedicated to all us campers and adventurers, hopefully without someone like Eddie and Lumpy in the background. From SEASON 5 EPISODE 36 remastered.
