Thanks so much to writer Dick Conway for coming up with this classic story, and with so many memories. Dedicated to all us guys back in the day who dreamed of their first car --even if its hunk of junk.
The dream was there, and no matter how terrible the car was, it was a sign of independence. If you had a car, you were the Man!
Such is the case with Wally who buys a broken down 1936 Ford that just sits in the driveway and takes up space. Number one, it will cost a fortune to fix it --and where will he get the money? -- and in the meantime, its blocking Ward's car and becoming a neighborhood eyesore! Good grief!
A little secret about this episode is why the Cleaver's moved into a new house in the first place. This is why! That big front driveway would be the scene of so many adventures, such as this. And you have to admit, there would be more cars in that famous driveway in the seasons to come. Rather cleverly, it also showed off Ward's new Plymouth each year.
If the series ran into the 70s, could you imagine Ward pulling into the driveway with a new Mustang or Camaro!
A neat episode which hits home all the way, and well directed. Everybody had fun with this story, and it shows. SEASON 5 EPISODE 3 remastered. Thank you so much to METV.
