One of the best in this anthology.
Loretta is the wife of a newsman, both of whom were imprisoned by the Communist Chinese. The husband was killed in captivity. Just before their capture, they gave their 2 year old daughter over to a couple who had room on their private plane for one more passenger. Go know that the plane would crash, the couple would perish, but the 2 year old would survive.
A heartbreaking, gut-wrenching story where Loretta returns to find all this out and that the child, with a heart condition, has been adopted. Mae Clark is wonderful as Mother Superior who tells Mrs. Kennedy (Loretta) to go gently with the child. Mrs. K sees for herself that in scurrying down the stairs quickly, the girl has a seizure.
Loretta is faced with a heart-breaking decision on whether to tell the girl who she really is. A phenomenal story.
