- After the death of Old Man Clanton, Doc Holliday hatches a not-quite-legal scheme involving Wyatt's brothers to help him in his desire to create an internal fight among the Clantons gang members over who takes control of the gang.
- With Shotgun Gibbs gone and the death of Old Man Clanton, Mayor Clum and the city council feel Earp needs help to keep the fight among the Clanton gang members out of Tombstone. Clum suggests Earp ask his brothers Morgan and Virgil in Prescott to help. Earp asks Clum to wait as he has contacted several men but Clum decides not to wait. He has Doc Holliday ask Virgil to become Chief of Police and Morgan his aide. Doc agrees but tells Clum to tell Earp he went to Tucson for a poker game. On the street Doc notices Behan's continued interest in Thelma Callum whose husband is in prison but recently released. Doc hatches the idea of having Thelma write a note to Behan to meet her. He then gets Virgil and Morgan to help him kidnap Behan at the meeting place. Doc hopes to have the Clanton gang members fight each other over the missing Behan although Virgil is skeptical. Earp hearing Behan is missing refuses to do anything until Ike Clanton leads one faction against another because of what Doc told him about the missing Behan. Clum is forced to tell Earp the truth about Doc and his brothers. Earp has to "rescue" Behan who won't press charges setting up the Earps versus the Clantons.—Anonymous
