When I was younger I followed a lot of TV series like many young people of my generation and I find it amusing to see the connections between them.
I am surprised no one has noticed the connection ...
This episode of "Lois and Clark" was broadcast on 11/14/93 in the USA. Jerry Hardin plays the character "Wayne Irig", a friend of "Jonathan Kent" (the father of Clark) who enters into contact with him to reveal his discovery of kryptonite. Jerry Hardin happens to be moreover "Deep Throat" the first informant of Fox Mulder in The X-Files serie.
On 09/17/93 episode 2 of season 1 of The "X-Files" was broadcast in the USA (curiously named "Deep Throat"). This is the episode where Jerry Harding makes his first appearance and is revealed to be an informant.
What is disturbing is that the storyline of this episode of "Lois and Clark" revolves around the fact that the American government seeks to hide the existence of extra-terrestrial life (in this case Superman, his ship and kryptonite), through sinister and cynical characters (Jerry Hardin plays this role very well I think) who motivate their arrival by invoking the risk of ecological disaster (pesticides risking seeping into groundwater) ... in short, it is a bit of The "X-Files", no :D ?
Note that the first broadcast of "Lois and Clark" took place on 09/12/93, 2 days after the first broadcast of "X-Files" on 09/10/93.
It did not strike me at the time because the broadcast of this episode of "Lois and Clark" in France (I'm French ;D) on 05/18/94 was before the broadcast of the first episode of "X-Files" where Jerry Hardin appeared on 06/19/94 (1 month later).
I do not really know where to look but I find it interesting to know which series influenced the other (I imagine at the time of writing but maybe not) ?
