The world is insane. It's especially insane on a Saturday night. Let's retreat to the glorious fantasy world of January 1978. I don't mean 1978. I mean, the fantasies of 1978. You know what I mean. Tracy Reed is an old flame of Isaac. Look out. Isaac's mother is on board too. She's wonderfully played by Pearl Bailey. Reed was in Car Wash. I love that movie. At one point, Isaac calls his mother a "swinger" and gets slapped for it. Captain Stubing has to play relationship therapist. Don Adams is a piano player booked with a singer (Nanette Fabary) who turns out to her ex-husband. I always liked Don Adams. 'The Poconos are like mountains to me,' she says. I like this subplot. It's a bickering couple subplot, which is the same thing, but Fabary and Adams are game. She slams his fingers in the piano. Ouch. There's another subplot about a mother and her daughter, who has just gotten a nose job. Gopher has fallen instantly in love with daughter. Doc romances mom. Oh yeah, and Gopher brought something onto the ship in a bag. I wonder what could it be. I'll give you a hint. Louise. Louise is eating Julie's carrots. Louise is eating diamond brooches. Captain Stubing has a particular Check Berry song in mind. This was the original silly Gopher. He got more serious later on. This one's fine enough. Julie doesn't do as much here. (It is mentioned that Louse has stolen her 'brand new bikini.' We won't be seeing that.) On Kafka's Love Boat Scale, this episode gets 3 * out of a possible 4 *.
