Lucy advertises for a roommate and after reviewing an application that sounds "refined and dignified" she settles on librarian Carol Bradford - a shy, mousy young woman whom Lucy and Mary Jane try to coax out of her shell.
With two queens of comedy sharing the stage you'd expect a laugh riot, but while this episode has its' moments, it's not a series classic. Once again, Ms. Ball steps aside and gives the spotlight to the guest star.
Burnett goes overboard - even Lucy says she "laughs like a hyena" - and the sneezing and hiccups bits are only mildly amusing. The funniest parts are when Carol's voice drops an octave and she delivers some of her lines in a "trucker" tone.
Lucy looks great in the party scene wearing a yellow sheath dress where Carol literally lets her hair down and belts out "Hard-Hearted Hannah".
The pairing should have resulted in something funnier, but it's interesting to see Lucy and Carol working together a year before the start of the latter's CBS variety show.
Burnett also appears in the following episode, but this is the better of the two.
