This is the first episode in which Seminola Indians hire an American gunslinger to organize the defense their village against brutal Confederate Colonel . Chris Larabee (Michel Biehn) holds a dark past , as his wife and son died in a fire and doesn't much care if he lives or dies , he then forms a misfit group of men to protect an Indian village from an outlaw gang of ex-Confederate soldiers bent on continuing the Civil War . As oppressed Seminolas assemble seven gunfighters to help defend their homes and a mine of gold . The magnificent are Vin Tanner (Eric Close ) , Josiah Sanchez (Ron Perlman) , Buck Wilmington (Dale Midkiff) , Ezra Standish Anthony Starke) , Nathan Jackson (Rick Worthy) , among others . As the motley group set off in rescue some Indian villagers . Their fee : the princely sum of five dollars apiece . As Chris and his buddies , each of whom comes for a different reason , must free an Indian village attacked by nasty soldiers who are devastating the small location . All of them get a chance to redeem themselves . Later on , the group develops a plan to secure the villagers defend it against enemy attack who even use a cannon.
Chris character was originally played by Yul Brynner in two occasions and one performed by Lee Van Cleef and George Kennedy and in TV is performed by Michael Biehn . Michael Biehn as a two-fisted pistolero is pretty well . Despite bearing no resemblance to Yul Brynner, including a full head of hair, Michael Biehn takes over the role of Chris Adams . In this first chapter the story is classic and traditional , following its interesting premise in subsequent sequels , including customary misfit band formed by an eclectic gang with diverse characters as well as speciality . In fact , it seems to be a remake from original picture directed by John Sturges , as it bears remarkable resemblance , similar plot and characters , but displays a slight style . As the magnificent seven include Vin Tanner, a former bounty hunter and ordinary fugitive; J.D. Dunne, a youthful, wannabe gunslinger ; Buck Wilmington, a current gunfighter and ladies man - not necessarily in that order ; Josiah Sanchez, an ex-preacher fighting his own personal demons ; Ezra Standish, a Southern con artist and card gambler and Nathan Jackson, an ex-slave with medical knowledge based on his years in the Union army . The film gets action Western , exciting riding, shootouts , it's fun and entertaining , although nothing new , being a remake from famous Sturges/Brynner picture and produced by Walter Bernstein who did the original adaptation of Akira Kurosawa's film . The movie contains some moment of violence and even touching on the relationships between the Indians and the Magnificent . William Roberts wrote the screenplay that is substantially what you see on screen , being added writings by the same producers Frank Q. Dobbs , Chris Black , Pen Densham , Richard Lewis and John Watson. Very good support cast, including notorious actors playing ¨The Magnificent¨ . There appears several prestigious actors such as Tony Burton of Rocky saga , Laurie Holden , subsequent more known for Walking Dead series , Ned Romero -usual in Indian roles- as Seminole Chief and special mention to Kurtwood Smith as cruel Col. Emmett Anderson . Breathtaking and memorable musical score by Don Harper based upon the classic soundtrack by Elmer Berstein , whose score is one of the best-known ever composed . Appropriate as well as glowing cinematography by Jack Conroy . Being filmed on location in Mescal ,Old Tucson , Arizona . This TV picture was professionally directed by Geoff Murphy , though with no originally . Geoff had previously realized other Westerns such as The Last Outlaw and Young Guns II . This acceptable Western is entertaining and amusing , if you like classic Western ,you'll enjoy this one .
The first film of ¨The Magnificent seven¨ series was the superior and enduringly popular film , ¨The magnificent seven¨ (John Sturges,1960) with Charles Bronson , James Coburn , Robert Vaughn , it is equally remake of ¨The seven samurais¨ (Akira Kurosawa) .
