The title is from the biblical quote "Physician, heal thyself" found in the Gospel Luke. "And He said to them, "No doubt you will quote this proverb to Me, 'Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we heard was done at Capernaum, do here in your hometown as well.'"
Both Marcia, playing Dr. Karen Harmon, and Edward Winter, playing Dr. Jorgensen, are veterans of M*A*S*H*. Strassman played nurse Margie Cutler through the first three seasons of the show, and Edward Winter made recurring appearances as CIA operative, COL Flagg.

Marcia Strassman played an army nurse for three seasons on MASH (1972) , which was famous for its opening credits sequence showing medical evac helicopters bringing wounded soldiers to a mobile army hospital. This episodes opens with a flashback to the Vietnam War showing medevac helicopters bringing wounded soldiers to a mobile army hospital. Strassman's character in this episode is a former army nurse who is now a surgeon.
