This episode points out the real problem with high schools, and why it needs to change. The problem of nobody knowing what it means to be accepted for being you regardless of how society labels you. All the kids in Malcolms class are accepted and befriend by the entire school. Even though the whole school hates them because of their status as "the smart kids' class". Intelligence is a gift not a privilege, you use it for the good of mankind, and as a way to discover who you are. In my book if your smart, and yet still worthy to stand alongside people who can do things you can't, then your equals in whatever it is that draws you together. Cliques are not designed to quell the right from the wrong, or the advantage from the disadvantage, they are design to be groups where people build friendships and be free to express what it is they like. The conflict between the cliques in the episode in build on hate, and the only reason everyone is so resentful of everything that's different is because they have been taught to and behave insecurely, because they don't want to be bullied or teased. That is something schools need to understand. It's why the kids in Malcolms class, shouldn't have a special class and given special treatment as they do, when everyone should be treated equally and given freedom to be who they are. If this show wasn't all about the cruel and mean-spirited humor, this could have been an eye-opening episode with a great ending where the cliques decide they don't want to fight, and the kids from Malcolm's class were accepted into their cliques regardless of who they were before. Because if everyone is united under a common desire to be who they want to be, why hate someone with the same intentions as you.
