- Peggy Fair: [smiling benevolently] And, of course, you need that information immediately.
- Joe Mannix: [matter-of-factly] I can't wait that long.
- Peggy Fair: [looks at him stunned, mouth agape, says nothing]
- Danny Brite: Listen, Mannix, don't think I don't feel bad about what happened to Charlie. Funny men bleed, too, you know? Wish there was something I could do. Sam, are you gonna let the man sit there? Ask the man to sit down.
- Sam Westlake: Sure, won't you sit down, Mr. Mannix?
- Danny Brite: See if the man wants a drink.
- Sam Westlake: Would you like a drink, Mr. Mannix?
- Greg Westlake: Dad, I'll do that.
- Sam Westlake: If I want your help, I'll ask you for it! What'll you have?
- Joe Mannix: Nothing, thank you. There is something you can do for me, Danny.
- Danny Brite: Yeah.
- Joe Mannix: Tell me what Charlie Frome was working on.
- Danny Brite: Now that's confidential. You know that. Now if you could use some money. You know, funeral expenses.
- Joe Mannix: All I want is information.
- Sam Westlake: Look, you heard what the man said. It's confidential.
- Danny Brite: Sam, stop shooting off your mouth. The man wants some information. Okay, that confidential it's not. Charlie was trying to track down an old hoofer I used to know. Who'd think he'd meet me with an accident?
- Joe Mannix: It wasn't an accident.
- Sam Westlake: They said it was hit and run.
- Joe Mannix: Whoever was driving that car meant to hit Charlie.
- Danny Brite: Now hold it, Mannix, just hold it. You trying to tie me into something?
- Joe Mannix: All I'm trying to say is that Charlie Frome was killed purposely and yours seems to be the only case he was working on. It's as simple as that.
- Danny Brite: I TOLD YOU! You don't listen, do you? Charlie was trying to track down an old broken down hoofer I used to know. Why would anybody want to kill him for that?
- Joe Mannix: Well, when you're looking for people, things happen. Oh, uh... by the way, who is that hoofer?
- Danny Brite: A guy by the name of Harry Henderson.
- Sam Westlake: Well, look, Mr. Mannix, you know, if the papers get ahold of a story like this, and with Danny's name...
- Danny Brite: Sam's right. Why don't you just let it cool off, huh? I mean there's nothing we can do for Charlie now. Unless a couple of hundred.
- Joe Mannix: [sarcastically] Now that's funny, Danny. That's really funny. You ought to keep it in the act.
