The poem that inspires Dobie's hunger strike is Sir John Suckling's 1638 poem, "Why so pale and wan, fair lover." Dobie also draws strength and inspiration from citing Elizabeth Barrett Browning's Sonnet 43 ("How do I love thee?") and from the lines of Richard Monckton Milnes: "He who for love hath undergone / The worst that can befall / Is happier thousandfold than one / Who never loved at all."
First appearance of Chatsworth Osbourne, Jr.
