Sammo as "Sammy Chao" ultimate fighter
ebertip17 February 2019
Fighters are dying and the police are investigating. Sammo initially can't convince the boss to try out until he disposes of four in a comical scene involving barbells and a pool cue going off as a missile. Then, "bring in the fat Chinese guy." Story paints a bleak post-Rollerball picture of ultimate fighting. Yes, doping is involved. "The more people die, the more money they make."

The first stand-alone episode of the show
Leofwine_draca14 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
DEAD RINGERS is the third-ever episode of MARTIAL LAW and the first to be a completely stand-alone story. This one's about an underground fighting ring in which the action is broadcast live on the Internet (an early variant of a plot which would end up being used countless times in low budget action cinema in the 2000s). Contestants keep dying and the LAPD think there's a conspiracy involved, so Sammo and his buddies go in to investigate. Inevitably Sammo gets to fight in the arena himself, in a handful of fun scenes. Elsewhere, Tammy Lauren's character continues to irritate and Kelly Hu has little to do, but it's engaging enough regardless.
