A brand new gig

Beau Maverick has decided to settle down and own a casino and in this case in partnership with Henry Brandon. Any Maverick knows the house odds are the best. But Brandon is shot and killed by saloon entertainer Kathleen Crowley who did many Maverick episodes.

In a bit borrowed from Naughty Marietta, Crowley exchanges identities and professions with another woman who was heading to another town for a teaching position. She's got a wanted Roger Moore trailing her and he's being trailed by Deputy Sheriff Brad Johnson and Bing Russell the deceased's brother who just wants to shoot him and have done with it.

Crowley steals the show in this one especially trying to teach school to some older kids with developing hormones in puberty.

She's the main reason to watch this story.

A Bullet For The Teacher

Beau becomes half-owner of a casino. Kathleen Crowly is singer Flo Baker. When Flo shoots Beau's partner, Maverick gets the blame. The deceased partner's brother frames Beau because he wants the casino. Flo leaves town to become a school teacher, teaching history and spelling to young kids. Crowley has that Marilyn Monroe look popular among sex symbols of the Maverick era. One of her students is older and smitten. She tells him she is not teaching the birds and bees. When she refuses to help Beau clear his name, he has to soften her up. I love those old Maverick episodes. They take me back to my early adolescence. Max Baer, who played Jethro Bodine in the Beverly Hillbillies, appears in this one. Many of the actors who made it in the 60s got their start in Maverick.
