In this Maverick story James Garner saves Jack Livesey from a most embarrassing
position and the grateful Scotsman sells him an old riverboat. Which at the same
time turns out to be one that a man from Memphis is willing to pay top dollar for.
Only it turns out that the Livesey was quite the con artist, he sold shares to about 8 different people including Bret Maverick. So they all agree to sail the steamer from Kansas City to Memphis, three rivers involved there, the Missouri, the Mississippi, and the Tennessee.
After that this Maverick story takes a leaf from the great Agatha Christie classic Ten Little Indians. The shareholders dwindle down to a precious few.
The solution is an obvious one, but I think you'll like this anyway.
