Won't you let me take you on a river cruise?
bkoganbing25 September 2018
In this Maverick story James Garner saves Jack Livesey from a most embarrassing position and the grateful Scotsman sells him an old riverboat. Which at the same time turns out to be one that a man from Memphis is willing to pay top dollar for.

Only it turns out that the Livesey was quite the con artist, he sold shares to about 8 different people including Bret Maverick. So they all agree to sail the steamer from Kansas City to Memphis, three rivers involved there, the Missouri, the Mississippi, and the Tennessee.

After that this Maverick story takes a leaf from the great Agatha Christie classic Ten Little Indians. The shareholders dwindle down to a precious few.

The solution is an obvious one, but I think you'll like this anyway.

Maverick: Cruise Of The Cynthia B.

Warning: Spoilers
"Cruise Of The Cynthia B." is patterned after an Agatha Christie story. Bret is one of seven owners of a riverboat. When they take it down the Mississippi to Memphis to sell it, the owners meet mysterious deaths. Mona Freeman is featured as Modesty Blaine. Modesty was ruthless in "The Cats Of Parasise," so when the ratings dropped the next week, her character was cleaned up. Bret is reacquainted with Modesty when she becomes the seventh sucker to purchase the Cynthis B. Bret asks Modesty if she is out on parole and insults her cooking before easing up on her. They kiss as the suspense grows. The killer is the man who sold them the boat. Pappyism: "A man does what he has to do -- if he can't get out of it."
