"Marshall Maverick" is the kind of comedy the series resorted to in its final shows. When the marshal is shot in the back during a poker game, the mayor forces Bart to be the marshal until Wyatt Earp arrives. Funny man John Dehner shows up impersonating Earp. He had stolen his gun! Dehner is hilarious when the outlaws try to kill him. The real Wyatt Earp appears, and Dehner comes clean. He just wanted to feel like an important man for a while. His real name is Archibald Walker, and he is "a hole in a donut." Still, he faces his tormentor in a gun fight and even gets the girl. Doc Holliday makes a cameo appearance. Holliday and Earp were friends in real life.
