The Cactus Switch

Beau is taking a lady to New Orleans and drops by to collect $1000 from Bart. Fay Spain is contemplating suicide, and the ever-present Edgar Buchanan threatens Bart. This has one of those inscrutable plots. I could not figure out how the episode got its name. The Mavericks were gregarious to a fault, living out of hotels and spending their time in casinos, saloons, banks and jails. White guys dress up as Indians, something that would be called "racist" today. The final two seasons foreshadow the silly comedies of the 1960s. Even when Maverick was in decline, it was still the best show on TV.

Incognito

This Maverick episode has Jack Kelly going incognito because he's in a town where Beau recently cleaned up and Bart doesn't want another Maverick plowing the same field of suckers.

Yet it's Kelly who is conned out of Fay Spain's valuable necklace and schemes to get it back. All he gets is a trip to the pokey where he meets veteran outlaw Edgar Buchanan.

Kelly also meets his two thick as a brick sons Tom Gilson and Robert Logan. It's they who fall for the Maverick con. In fact in this somewhat muddled script acting honors go to Gilson and Logan.

Far from the best and I'm noticing a deterioration in the quality of the stories in the later years.
